Founder & Visionary

Jhettlyn Wolfe

Jhettlyn Wolfe never planned to start an animal sanctuary. In July 2019, during a scorching 104-degree Texas afternoon, she found an abandoned pit bull mix cowering in an empty parking lot. That single act of compassion—opening her car door—changed everything.

What began in her garage with one terrified dog has grown into a 5-acre sanctuary that has saved over 5,000 animals. Wolfe's philosophy is simple: every animal deserves a second chance at love, regardless of age, health, or history.

A native of West Texas, Wolfe brings a no-nonsense approach to animal rescue. She believes in transparency, community partnership, and the transformative power of unconditional love. Under her leadership, The Barking Lot has become a model for no-kill sanctuaries across the region.

When she's not at the sanctuary (which isn't often), Wolfe can be found advocating for animal welfare legislation, speaking at community events, or fostering 'the hard cases'—the animals others have given up on.

"Every animal that enters our doors receives the same unconditional love. We never say 'too old,' 'too sick,' or 'too scared.'"
